5 Negative prefixes

We can make some adjectives negative by adding the prefixes un, in, im, ir, dis or il. We use im before m and p, il before l, or ir before r. Complete the sentences with the negative form of the adjectives in brackets.

1 When she saw her first volcano, Hazel was impatient to get to the top.

2 Walking across the lava flow was an irresponsible thing to do.

3 The volcano had been inactive for years. Its eruption was completely unpredictable.

4 It was impossible to get near the crater. The lava was too hot.

5 The research notes were illegible. Nobody could read them.

6 When the volcano erupted, the evacuation of the island was rushed and disorganised.
